We are delighted to share we have been awarded three fantastic awards at the East Midlands in Bloom Awards.
Miss Hewgill attended the awards event on Wednesday 23 September on behalf of Thoresby Vale Primary Academy.
We won the best fruit and vegetable award across the whole of East Midlands, recognising the fantastic work our pupils and staff have put into growing, planting and learning about food within our school. We are extremely proud of our allotment, the children have spent weeks tending to it with the support of Miss Hewgill and Peter, one of our volunteers.
We received the silver gilt award in the school category and Miss Hewgill was presented with the judges award for inspiring pupils to explore through planting, growing and getting hands-on with nature. We are so proud to see her enthusiasm for outdoor learning recognised.
On Friday 25 September, Miss Hewgill, Mrs Hurley and Mrs Wightwick attended the Edwinstowe awards, where Edwinstowe was awarded gold for best small town. This years theme for Edwinstowe in bloom was inspirational women with the colours pink, purple and white. We decided our entry would focus on the works of Beatrix Potter, an author we admire a lot at Thoresby Vale due to her commitment to conservation and her love of books. It is one of the reasons why we planted pink, purple and white flowers inside wellington boots, tires and jars around the school, which the children watered and dead headed each week.
We are so grateful to have achieved these awards in our very first year as it displays our incredible commitment to our natural curriculum. A huge congratulations to everyone who has helped make these achievements possible. We are incredibly proud of our pupils, staff, school and wonderful community.
