The overall goal of forest school is to help people develop into resilient, creative, compassionate individuals who value the natural world (human and non-human) and care for every living being’s welfare.

Drawing upon our unique setting in the heart of Sherwood Forest, our natural curriculum will enthuse children about the natural world around them.

Our enhanced curriculum goes beyond the classroom through a range of exciting experiences and opportunities to develop wider personal skills such as independence, resilience and teamwork. We will encourage children to apply new knowledge and skills in different contexts building confidence and self-esteem.

We believe that education is more than just mastering English and maths – it’s also about enrichment and extraordinary experiences that extend children’s learning through new encounters and opportunities.

  • Knowledge about nature. Children will explore how nature works and develop a deeper understanding of the environment around them.
  • Environmental awareness. Children will learn to understand the importance of looking after the environment. They will learn about sustainability, climate change, and how their actions can make a positive difference in protecting the planet.
  • Character development. Children will learn about different cultures, communities, and diversity. They will develop key life skills, such as working with others, managing emotions, handling setbacks, and building relationships. Our aim is to help each child become the best version of themselves.
  • Enrichment. We encourage all children to get involved in activities outside of their lessons; to enable them to try new things, meet new friends and develop new skills.
  • Bushcraft. Children will take part in outdoor activities that teach them survival skills, such as building shelters, making fires, and navigating nature. These hands-on experiences will foster a sense of adventure and a deeper connection to the natural world.

Our natural curriculum combined with the national curriculum makes our school a wonderful place to be.
