This year along with many other schools around the country Thoresby Vale has taken part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2026. While also striving to complete The Ruby Robin Award challenges which raises money for the SongBird Survival Charity.
These projects not only fit well within our natural curriculum but also incorporates the healthy habits we encourage at Thoresby.
As part of the competition over the last few weeks, we have been counting and recording the birds we see around school and noting down any questions we have about the species. The children have also been busy making bird feeders out of oranges which they have taken home to put proudly on display in their own gardens.
We have loved incorporating these challenges into our curriculum, the children have loved learning how to use binoculars and working together to spot the different birds. We believe this challenge has taught the children about the importance of being responsible for their local environment and helped them become more curious about the natural world.
