At Thoresby Vale Primary Academy, our curriculum will provide every child with the best possible chance to learn and grow.
We aim to deliver an education which inspires and empowers our children to be confident and independent, with the right positive mindset and knowledge to thrive. We want our children to see themselves as respectful, global citizens of the world with a strong sense of self, how they are going to make a difference in the world and a strong appreciation of the natural world.
We will strive to ensure that our pupils leave us achieving their full potential, both academically and in terms of their personal development. By developing the whole child, we know they will be ready for life ahead.
We follow the early years foundation stage for the youngest children and the national curriculum from key stage 1. This is enhanced by our natural curriculum which is inspired by our unique setting in the forest.
The curriculum will be centred on the development of key skills in reading, oracy, writing and mathematics. It will also ensure children access the full breadth of the national curriculum including science, art, design technology, computing, history, geography, music, modern foreign languages (Spanish), religious education and physical education.
All areas of the curriculum will ensure that children understand their learning and can make links with what they already know. We will challenge children to ask big questions, encourage their natural curiosity and become pupil leaders.
We will introduce children to quality texts that offer knowledge, vocabulary, and insights into different contexts, helping them explore the world, spark their imagination, and develop a love for reading.
Children will benefit from a structured programme of personal, social and health education. We will proudly place wellbeing at the heart of learning, teaching children how to stay healthy in mind and body and ensuring they know how to keep themselves safe including in the virtual world.
We create a welcoming and nurturing environment where every child is valued and heard. This helps build a strong foundation for learning, encouraging children to attend regularly and make the most of the many learning opportunities available to them.
